Before the road test
- Nine months on the permitThe instruction permit is held nine months before the graduated licence.

- Nine months without a ticketA moving-violation conviction pushes the licence out nine months. Check the court record before booking the road test.
- Driver education30 classroom hours and 6 hours with an instructor. Those hours are extra, not part of the 50.
When they can drive
- 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on school nightsA parent or guardian must ride along.
- 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday and SaturdayA parent or guardian must ride along.
